The Prime Minister: Mr Speaker, Sir, I rise to move the motion* standing in my name.
*The motion reads as follows:-
That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (2) of section 29 of the Registration of Deeds Ordinance (Chapter 255), resolves that rule 24 of the Registration of Deeds Rules, 1934, be amended by deleting the figures "5" and "1" appearing in the first line of the second column of paragraph (1) thereof and substituting thereof the figures "10" and "2" respectively, as contained in Paper S.L. 6 of 1963.
All it really means is that we intend to put up the fees payable from $5 to $10 and from an additional $1 to an additional $2 to bring it into uniformity with similar fees payable under the Land Titles Rules, 1960. The reason is that these fees were fixed quite some time ago and they no longer cover the administrative cost of maintaining the necessary personnel and machinery for the purposes of benefiting the landowners.
Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
Resolved,
That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (2) of section 29 of the Registration of Deeds Ordinance (Chapter 255), resolves that rule 24 of the Registration of Deeds Rules, 1934, be amended by deleting the figures "5" and "1" appearing in the first line of the second column of paragraph (1) thereof and substituting therefor the figures "10" and "2" respectively, as contained in Paper S.L. 6 of 1963.
