DEPARTMENTAL TITLES

The Minister for Health and Law (Mr K. M. Byrne): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the motion standing in my name* as set out in the Order Paper.

*That this Assembly, pursuant to section 3 of the Departmental Titles (Alteration) Ordinance (Chapter 55), resolves that the Schedule to the said Ordinance be amended by the addition under the headings of "Old Title or Name of Offices" and New Title or Name of Office" respectively of the items shown in the following Schedule:-

The Departmental Titles (Alteration) Ordinance (Chapter 55 of the Revised Edition) provides for the substitution of new titles or names of officers where there has been a change of departmental titles. Section 3 of the Ordinance provides that the Legislative Assembly may, by resolution, add to or amend the Schedule to the Ordinance.

The change of titles of the Prison officers has been necessitated as a result of changes which have been made in order to implement the recommendations of the Prisons Inquiry Commission. The change of titles of officers of the Botanic Gardens has been recently made as a result of reorganisation in the department. Instead of three separate posts of Assistant Directors of Gardens, Keeper of the Herbarium and Botanists, there are now three posts of Botanists.
