ELECTRICITY SUPPLY IN PUNGGOL

Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for National Development whether and when electricity will be supplied from 9 milestone Punggol Road to Punggol Point.

Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, if it is in order, my Parliamentary Secretary will reply on my behalf.

Mr Speaker: Mr Ho Cheng Choon, please proceed.

Mr Ho Cheng Choon: The Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee has drawn up a scheme for the supply of electricity by the Public Utilities Board to the whole of Punggol area. The scheme covers the following areas:

Lorong Buang Kok

Kampong Sungei Tengah

Jalan Kampong Tengah

Kampong Serangoon Kechil, and

Punggol Road, 9¾ m.s. to seafront.

Some of these areas have already been supplied with electricity. The stretch of Punggol Road from 9¾ m.s. to the sea-front will be supplied with electricity as soon as the sub-station in constructed. Action has already been taken by the Public Utilities Board to acquire the site for the sub-station and when construction is completed, electricity mains will be laid and advertised to supply electricity to houses wanting to have connections.

Mr Ng Kah Ting: What is the total cost of this electrification scheme and is there any subsidy granted by the Government?

Mr Ho Cheng Choon: The total cost of this scheme will be $272,190. The revenue over a period of seven years from the areas benefitting is estimated to be about $255,484 and a subsidy of $16,000, or $42 per house, has been paid by the Government to enable the scheme to be implemented.
