Mr Tan Cheng Tong asked the Minister for National Development when will the following unmetalled agricultural roads be repaired: (a) two of the four roads linking Boh Sua Tian Road at 9½ milestone Yio Chu Kang Road to Sungei Seletar Fishing Village; (b) Track 23 between 9½ milestone Yio Chu Kang Road and Cheng San Road; (c) upper Tong Lee Road between Jalan Kayu and Boh Sua Tian Road; and (d) Track 22 at 11 milestone Yio Chu Kang Road.
Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for National Development): The answer to (a) - one proposal for the making up of one track from Boh Sua Tian resettlement area leading to Sungei Seletar has been received by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee from the members of the Citizens Consultative Committee of the area, while another proposal for the making up of Boh Sua Tian Road leading to the seaside Malay kampong has been received by the Prime Minister during his recent tour of the area. Both these proposals are being considered by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Com mittee and, if approved, construction work will commence within the next few months.
The answer to (b) - a proposal for the making up of Track 23 between 9½ milestone Yio Chu Kang Road and Cheng San Road has been received from the people of the area. It has been deferred by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee on account of the high cost. This track is a long one and the area is not sufficiently developed to justify the expense involved.
The answer to (c) - the repair of this road is not on the priority list for repair of agricultural roads and no request has been received so far for this repair. The Work Brigade will, however, be asked to look into the possibility of repairing this road prior to consideration by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee.
The answer to (d) - a proposal to make up Track 22 at 11 milestone Yio Chu Kang Road using quarry weights will be considered by the Urban and Rural Services Committee and, if approved, construction work will commence within the next few months.
Mr Tan Cheng Tong (Jalan Kayu): (In Mandarin): On (c), I would like to put a supplementary question.
The Parliamentary Secretary has just now said that nobody has made any application to repair this road, but I would like to point out to him that when I was in the P.A.P. I had already mentioned it, and especially when the Prime Minister was touring that area.
Mr Speaker: Order. The hon. Member cannot make a speech, but he can ask a supplementary question arising out of the answer. Mr Tan Cheng Tong, Question No. 7.
