Mr Tan Cheng Tong asked the Minister for National Development whether the Government has any plan to build in the rural areas more bus-stop shelters at places where there are no shops or houses.

Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, yes, we have plans to build in rural areas more bus-stops and bus-shelters, and whenever requests are received from the public, they are examined and, if approved by the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee, bus-shelters are then erected by the Public Works Department. It is the normal practice to give favourable consideration to requests for bus-shelters in places where there are no shops or houses. Construction of such bus-shelters is, however, subject to the availability of funds.
