Madam Chan Choy Siong asked the Minister for National Development whether and when children's playgrounds are to be provided in Bukit Ho Swee Estate and other Housing Board Estates.
Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, there is already in existence a large children's playground constructed by the Housing and Development Board adjacent to the school and clinic in Bukit Ho Swee Estate. This children's playground of about three-quarters of an acre in area is equipped with swings, seesaws, a paddling pool, a climbing tower, concrete play-blocks, etc. Two additional children's playgrounds are being constructed in the Nile Road and Beo Crescent Estates adjacent to Bukit Ho Swee. These two playgrounds will be completed in about a month's time.
Generally, there is at least one children's playground provided in every large housing estate in addition to other social amenities, such as badminton courts, community centres, etc. Wherever necessary, additional children's playgrounds will be provided in new estates.
