Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for National Development when will Lorong Buang Kok, which is a link to Yio Chu Kang Road, be widened and metalled.

Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, Lorong Buang Kok is about two miles long. The cost of widening and metalling this road will be very high and there are more urgent claims to the limited funds available for such development. In view of this high cost, the Urban and Rural Services Consultative Committee has deferred the proposal to metal this road which has, however, been made up to agricultural road standards.

Mr Ng Kah Ting: Will the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for National Development consider metalling this track, Lorong Buang Kok, by sections?

Mr Ho Cheng Choon: I have the pleasure to inform the hon. Member that part of Lorong Buang Kok has been approved for metalling. This is at the junction of Punggol Road and Lorong Buang Kok, the section leading to the Soo Teck Chinese School.
