Inche Rahamat Bin Kenap asked the Minister of State (Prime Minister's Department) if he will consider (a) the installation of traffic lights at the junction of Geylang Road, Changi Road and Joo Chiat Road, in view of the traffic jams at that junction at peak hours; and (b) the establishment of a zebra crossing at Changi Road in front of the Geylang Serai Vocational School.

Tuan Haji Yaacob: (In Malay): Mr Speaker, Sir, it is intended to re-install traffic lights at the junction of Geylang Road/Changi Road/Joo Chiat Road. It is hoped the traffic lights will be installed before the end of the year.

It is not proposed to place a zebra crossing at Changi Road in front of the Geylang Serai Vocational School as the continual crossing of pedestrians will affect the flow of traffic considerably, in view of the wide stretch of the road. However, the construction of a pedestrian overhead bridge across Changi Road, opposite Changi market, is under consideration.

3.29 p.m.

Mr Speaker: In view of the fact that we are just one minute short of 3.30 p.m., Members may consider deferring Government Bills and taking Supply business first, rather than interrupt Government Bills to go to Supply and then come back to Government Bills. If that course is acceptable, would the Minister for Finance like to move the Business Motion?
