Mr Tay Boon Too asked the Minister for Law and National Development when work will commence on (i) the repair of Lorong Dendam off Bartley Road; and (ii) the improvement of drains along Jalan Telega and along the road off Jalan Telega, which had been requested more than a year ago.

Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for Law and National Development): Sir, though the request for the two projects may have been made to the hon. Member for Paya Lebar more than a year ago, both were submitted to the Urban and Rural Services Committee by the Citizens' Consultative Committee of Paya Lebar only on the 31st March this year. After investigations, both projects were considered by the Urban and Rural Services Committee at its meeting in July last. Both projects were approved by the Projects Committee at its meeting on the 7th August this year.

Work on the making up of Lorong Dendam to kampong road standard at a cost of $8,000 has already commenced and is expected to be completed shortly.

Tenders for the improvement of drains at Jalan Telega and the road off Jalan Telega have already been called for. The work is expected to begin and be completed by the end of September this year.

Mr Tay Boon Too: (In Mandarin): I would not like to debate with the Parliamentary Secretary -

Mr Speaker: Standing Orders do not allow you to debate. What is your supplementary question?

Mr Tay Boon Too: (In Mandarin): I would like to thank the Parliamentary Secretary for saying that work will start soon.
