Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for Law and National Development, in view of the increase in vehicular traffic and accidents along Punggol Road up to Punggol Point, if he will consider the widening and resurfacing of the Road.
The Minister for Law and National Development (Mr E. W. Barker): Sir, the existing 24 feet wide carriageway of Punggol Road is considered adequate to cater for the present volume of vehicular traffic. However, as development around Punggol Point is increasing, a survey is now being made in respect of the widening of Punggol Road. Subject to securing the necessary approval of funds, work for the widening of the road can be carried out next year. Meanwhile every effort will be made to keep the road in a satisfactory condition.
