Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for Law and National Development when the sewerage system will be extended to the Upper Serangoon, Punggol and the surrounding constituencies, in view of the fact that it is the Government's policy to make modern sanitation available throughout the Republic.
Mr E. W. Barker: It is the Government's policy to eventually extend modern sanitation facilities to every home in the Republic. This ambitious programme is being carried out systematically and can only be implemented subject to practical and financial limitations. For the present, priority is being given to new and extensive projects in the Urban Renewal areas in the Kallang Basin, Jurong and Upper Changi.
