Official Report, 2 December 1971, Vol 31, Issue 8 · Open in the reader (summaries, search, filters)
Mr Ng Kah Ting asked the Minister for Communications what plans his Ministry has to develop Trafalgar Estate which formerly housed the Trafalgar Receiving Station; and whether the residents, who have been living in the Estate for many years, will be given Temporary Occupation Licences to continue to live there and to enjoy the amenities such as water and electricity and better roads.
The Minister for Communications (Mr Yong Nyuk Lin): Mr Govindasamy, Sir, Trafalgar Station used to be a high frequency radio receiving station. As such, it was sensitive to electrical interference. Thus it was necessary to impose conditions on the distribution of electricity supplies when the Station was functioning. However, the radio services operating from this Station have since 1st June, 1971, been transferred to operate from our Yio Chu Kang Station. There is, therefore, no necessity now to place any restriction on the provision of amenities such as the public utilities and better roads to the present residents.
As my Ministry has yet no plans for the Trafalgar site, the residents who have been living there for many years may remain on Temporary Occupation Licences until the site is required for development.
