Mr Ang Nam Piau asked the Minister for Finance, in view of the payment of bonuses to their employees by employers in the private sector, if he will consider giving at least one month's salary as a bounty to civil servants of all categories, two weeks before the commencement of the new year.
Mr Tang See Chim (for the Minister for Finance): No, Sir. The Minister for Finance does not propose to consider giving any bounty to civil servants of all categories.
The fact that some employers with large profits have given bonuses to their employees has no relevance to the Government services which are not run for profit.
