Mr Cheong Yuen Chee asked the Minister for Law and National Development whether the Housing and Development Board has any plans to build more hawkers' centres in Toa Payoh Estate to accommodate the large number of unauthorised hawkers plying in the Estate.
Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for Law and National Development): Sir, a hawkers' centre and a market are under construction at the Toa Payoh Town centre. There will be 33 footstalls in the hawkers' centre and about 55 footstalls and 219 other stalls in the market.
Another hawkers' centre is also being planned in Neighbourhood I to the north of Lorong 7, Toa Payoh. This hawkers' centre will have about 80 footstalls and about 150 other stalls.
