Mr Ch'ng Jit Koon asked the Minister for Social Affairs if he will consider an upward revision of the existing rates of financial assistance under the Public Assistance Scheme for the poor and the sick.

The Minister for Social Affairs (Inche Othman Bin Wok): Sir, consideration is being given to revise upward the existing rates of financial assistance under the Public Assistance Scheme. Proposals have already been submitted to and are now being studied by the Ministry of Finance. Until a final decision is made, the Member for Tiong Bahru will appreciate that it is not appropriate at this stage to disclose what the proposals are.
