Dr Augustine H. H. Tan asked the Minister for National Development and Communications if he will consider building a bus shelter as soon as possible along Jalan Toa Payoh just outside the Jalan Tenteram Hawkers' Centre.

Dr Tan Eng Liang (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Sir, with the completion of further stretches of the Pan Island Expressway in the near future, traffic along Jalan ba Payoh (which forms part of the Pan Island Expressway) is expected to increase considerably. The request will then be considered.

There are two bus stops along Jalan Toa Payoh near the Jalan Tenteram Hawkers Centre, one with a bus shelter and one without. The bus stops are linked by a pedestrian crossing signal across Jalan Toa Payoh. Pedestrian movements and the pedestrian signal will be reviewed when traffic along Jalan boa Payoh increases. If found necessary, the pedestrian signal will be replaced with a pedestrian overhead bridge and proper bus lay-byes and bus shelters will be provided at these two bus stops.
