Dr Lau Teik Soon asked the Minister for the Environment whether he will allow the transfer of hawker stalls for those hawkers who have moved to Housing and Development Board estates which are far away from their place of business, and who, for reasons of age, physical handicap and family responsibility, are faced with considerable hardship to maintain their present stalls.

The Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment (Mr Chor Yeok Eng) (for the Minister for the Environment): ( In Mandarin): Mr Speaker, Sir, it has been the policy of the Ministry of the Environment to relocate, on request, hawkers who have moved to Housing Board estates to markets/food centres nearer to their new residences. Relocation is, however, subject to vacant stalls apportioned for the same article of sale, being available.
