Mr Lee Kuan Yew asked the Chief Secretary whether the question of an increase in pensions and cost of living allowance for pensioners has been decided.

Mr W. A. C. Goode: Sir, proposals for a revision of pensions and allowances are being drawn up and I hope to present a scheme to this Assembly for approval in the near future.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew: Is the Chief Secretary aware that there have been increases in the pension allowances in the Federation?

Mr Goode: Yes, Sir, I am aware of the arrangements which have been made in the Federation and we are, in fact, using them as a basis for our own working. We waited to get the final results of the Federation's attempts to solve this complicated problem and we are now trying to adapt them to our own circumstances.
