Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Financial Secretary whether he is satisfied that the extent of personal relief to income taxpayers in the Colony is adequate in the present circumstances.
Mr T. M. Hart: Sir, this is one of the many questions which are constantly engaging my attention. I am sure the hon. Member will not wish me to anticipate any statement that I might make in moving the Budget.
Mr Lee Choon Eng: Is the Chief Secretary aware that many employers in commercial firms have increased the personal emoluments of their employees due to certain unfavourable fluctuations, and that this reflects hardship on the salaried taxpayers?
Mr Speaker: Does the hon. Member mean the Financial Secretary when he says "Chief Secretary"?
Mr Lee Choon Eng: The Financial Secretary, I am sorry, Sir.
Mr Hart: I shall be glad if the hon. Member will give me further details.
