Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Financial Secretary what steps he has taken, or proposes to take, to amend the Income Tax Ordinance with a view to granting personal relief to an income-taxpayer who supports his parents, brothers, sisters or relatives.
Mr Oon Khye Kiang: Sir, a proposal of this nature requires consideration on a pan-Malayan basis. This is one of the many questions that are constantly engaging my attention. I am sure the hon. Member will not wish me to anticipate any statement that I might wish to make at a future date.
Mr Marshall: Why not?
Mr Lee Choon Eng: Have there been any consultations with the Malayan Government so far on this question?
Mr Oon Khye Kiang: I have nothing further to add, Sir.
