Mr D. S. Marshall asked the Minister for Education what research, if any, his Ministry has made into the question of employment opportunities for graduates of Chinese Middle Schools.
Mr Chew Swee Kee: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Ministry of Education has carried out a survey of a good cross-sectional view of the Singapore commercial and industrial communities to determine:
(1) Methods of recruitment and standards required of recruits;
(2) Appraisement and criticisms of the products of the Singapore education system in relation to the commercial and industrial needs of the community; and
(3) Suggestions for adjustments or improvement.
Mr Marshall: Can this House expect, Sir, a White Paper on the results of these researches, or at least publicity given to them?
Mr Chew Swee Kee: I can assure this House that publicity will be given to it, but not a White Paper, Sir.
