Mr Lim Koon Teck asked the Chief Secretary when it is proposed to hold the City Council elections.
Mr Goode: Sir, the Government accepts the basic principles of the Report of the Committee on Local Government and a White Paper will be tabled before the June meeting of the Assembly.
I hope that it will be possible to hold elections to the new Councils in December, but this depends on the mechanics of preparing electoral rolls.
Mr John Ede: Sir, is the Chief Secretary not aware that two months ago the Chief Minister stated that Assistant Ministers would only have to serve three or four more months on the City Council, and will he implement this promise?
Mr Goode: I suggest, Sir, that this be addressed to the Chief Minister.
