Mr D. S. Marshall asked the Minister for Labour and Welfare whether the Government intends to introduce legislation to remove the existing disabilities of Trade Unions to participate in political activities.

Mr Lim Yew Hock: Sir, legislation to permit trade unions to set up political funds is being drafted, and the Government intends to introduce a Bill at an early date. With regard to the affiliation of trade unions with political parties, trade union organisations are being consulted as to their views and as soon as these are received, the Government will give immediate consideration.
