Inche Ahmad Bin Ibrahim asked the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing what steps is the Government taking to supply the following facilities to the residents of Sembawang Rural District:

(a) street lighting and electricity for private houses between the 11th milestone and 15th milestone Sembawang Road;

(b) more public water standpipes for the District.

Inche Abdul Hamid: Mr Speaker, Sir, the City Council is about to lay a cable and establish a sub-station at the 13th mile, Sembawang Road, which will make it possible for the Rural Board to consider the provision of street lighting where it is needed and for houses in that vicinity to apply for domestic supplies. The answer to the second part of the question is that the Rural Board is already considering the installation of two new standpipes and the re-siting of three existing standpipes, and also the installation of two others, one at the 13th milestone and the other at the 15th milestone Sembawang Road.
