Mr Goh Tong Liang asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that there is a large number of over-age pupils of both sexes who were not allowed to sit for the Common Entrance Examination for Secondary Schools last year and who are now unable, although eager, to continue their academic study; and what does he propose to do about them.

Mr Chew Swee Kee: Yes, last year the Ministry organised special evening classes for pupils from primary schools who were unable to find places in secondary schools. More of these classes have been started this year. For further information about them, I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 8th February last year to the Member for Tanglin (Mr John Ede).
