TANJONG PAGAR BY-ELECTIONS (Steps to exclude non bona fide voters)

Mr John Ede asked the Chief Secretary whether he will take steps to prevent persons who have registered in the Tanjong Pagar Electoral Division at addresses which are not and never have been their usual place of residence from voting at the coming by-elections; and whether steps will be taken against them under paragraph (2) of Regulation 16 of the Registration of Persons Regulations, 1955.

Mr Goode: No, Sir. The electoral roll for the coming by elections in Tanjong Pagar was certified on 15th September last year and cannot now be altered.

As regards the possibility of prosecution under Regulation 16 of the Registration of Persons Ordinance, any information which the hon. Member can give to the police, indicating that an offence has been committed, will be investigated.
