Mr Goh Tong Liang asked the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing whether he is aware that there is a great demand by the inhabitants of Bulim Village in Chua Chu Kang for electricity; and when will electricity be supplied to them.
Inche Abdul Hamid: Mr Speaker, Sir, I am aware of the desire of the inhabitants of Bulim Village and others for a supply of electricity to their village. Electricity supplies have not been possible in the past as there were no electricity mains in the vicinity of Bulim Village and the cost of a scheme to supply electricity to a comparatively small and distant village would be prohibitive. However, I am informed by the City Council that a scheme for supplying the R.A.F. Station at Tengah with electricity has been prepared and should be operating by the end of the year or early in 1958. When this scheme has been completed, it will be possible for the Government to request the City Council to consider a subsidiary scheme to supply a number of villages along Chua Chu Kang Road.
Mr Goh Tong Liang: Mr Speaker, Sir, is the Minister aware that a line has been laid in Chua Chu Kang Road, and that when I wrote to the City Engineer enquiring whether he could supply electricity to the households, he said, no, it was a very high tension wire?
Mr Speaker: Hon. Members must not merely supply information. They should ask questions.
