Order for Second Reading read.
11.14 a.m.
Mr Lim Koon Teck (Paya Lebar): Sir, I move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."
In a government Bill, Sir, the objects and reasons are contained in a note at the end of the Bill. This being a private Bill, all the reasons are incorporated in the Bill itself and are set out as recitals. Briefly, they are as follows: that the Little Sisters of the Poor was constituted in France in the year 1893; these Sisters of the Poor have done very good work in Singapore - this I think is well known to all of us - and they have established a home in Thomson Road; after these years of work in Singapore they have managed to receive certain funds and they wish now to extend their activities to the Federation of Malaya; they have some buildings and land, and funds to invest, and for the purpose of investment and owning of property they wish their charitable concern to be incorporated.
Sir,I think this is a deserving cause and there is not much need for me to say anything more. Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
Bill accordingly read a Second time.
