HAIG ROAD HOUSING ESTATE (Community hall)

Haji Rahmat bin Kenap asked the Minister for National Development and Communications if the Housing and Development Board will consider a request to rent a void deck in the Haig Road Housing Estate for use as a community hall in the absence of a proper playground and indoor sports facilities for the children and a recreation hall for the adults residing in the Estate.

Dr Tan Eng Liang (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Sir, at the request of MPs, the Housing and Development Board will provide accommodation for social, educational or community services mainly on ground floors or void decks. One such facility is the provision of one community hall per constituency. As accommodation for one community hall has already been provided to the Hon. Member's constituency, the Haig Road Housing Estate, which falls within his constituency, is not entitled to another one.
