Haji Sha'ari bin Tadin asked the Minister for National Development and Communications whether it is planned to install traffic lights at the junction of Bedok North Road and New Upper Changi Road, opposite Block 56, Neighbourhood 11 of Bedok New Town, so that there may be direct traffic movement from Bedok North towards the City without a diversion through Bedok South Road.

Dr Tan Eng Liang (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Sir, there is an existing traffic signal at the junction of New Upper Changi Road and Bedok South Avenue 3. Another set of traffic signals is under installation at the junction of Bedok North Avenue 1. This traffic light is expected to be in operation by middle of February 1978 and vehicles from Bedok North could make use of this junction to turn right into New Upper Changi Road and proceed towards the city without diverting through Bedok South Road.

There is no proposal to install traffic lights at the junction of Bedok North Road and New Upper Changi Road as it is too near the existing traffic light junction. However, the PWD is examining the need for installing traffic signals at the junction of New Upper Changi Road and Bedok North Avenue 3.
