Mr Ho See Beng asked the Minister for National Development and Communications, in view of the increasing volume of vehicular traffic at the junction of Lorongs 2 and 3, Toa Payoh, if an overhead pedestrian bridge will be constructed at that junction.

Dr Tan Eng Liang (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Sir, there are four existing signalised junctions near the junction of Lorong 2/Lorong 3, i.e. the junctions of Lorong 2/Lorong 1, Lorong 2/Toa Payoh Central, Lorong 4/Lorong 5, Lorong 4/Toa Payoh Central. These four signalised junctions interrupt the continuous traffic flow and create gaps along the roads bounded by them. Pedestrians can cross the roads in this area during these gaps in the traffic stream.

Though there is no proposal to construct an overhead pedestrian bridge at the junction of Lorongs 2 and 3, Toa Payoh, the PWD will make an investigation and provide an appropriate pedestrian crossing if warranted.
