Announcement by Mr Speaker

Mr Speaker: Hon. Members will recall that on the 11th September, 1957, I read a message from the Speaker of the Federal Legislative Council acknowledging with thanks the receipt of the resolution of this Assembly which contained a message of greetings and good wishes to Members of the Federal Legislative Council on the occasion of the attainment of Independence by the Federation of Malaya.

I have since then received a further letter from the Speaker of the Federal Legislative Council. It is dated the 24th September, 1957, and reads as follows:

"Dear Mr Speaker,

I duly communicated to the Legislative Council at its meeting on the 3rd September last the message of the Singapore Legislative Assembly which was conveyed in your letter of the 21st August, 1957.

The Council wishes me, on its behalf, to convey its very deep appreciation of the warm good wishes and brotherly sentiments expressed in the message. Yours sincerely, Dato HAJI ABDUL MALEK Speaker".
