Committee suggested to investigate applications and recommend revised allocation system
Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Minister for Local Government, Lands and Housing if he is aware of the difficulties experienced by the public in getting Singapore Improvement Trust houses, and if he will consider setting up a Committee of Inquiry to investigate the outstanding applications, and to recommend a revised system of allocation of Singapore Improvement Trust houses.
Inche Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Jumat: Mr Speaker, Sir, I am aware of the difficulties experienced by the public. These difficulties will remain so long as the supply of Singapore Improvement Trust accommodation does not meet the demand for it.
With regard to the suggestion for a committee of enquiry, I am not aware of the hon. Member for Queenstown's reasons for dissatisfaction with the present points system of allocation, and of the need for any investigation or revision such as is suggested; but if he will let me have any suggestions for improvement of the system I shall - and I am sure the S.I.T. will also - give them the fullest consideration.
