Future arrangements when Pan-Malayan Department is separated

5

Mr Lee Kuan Yew asked the Chief Secretary who will audit the Accounts of the Government of Singapore and its agencies when the office of the Director of Audit, Malaya, which appointment hitherto has been for both the Federation of Malaya and Singapore, is separated.

The Acting Chief Secretary (Mr S. T. Stewart): Sir, no decision has yet been made to split up the pan-Malayan office of the Director of Audit, Malaya. Although under the Constitution of the Federation of Malaya the Director of Audit, Malaya, has become the Auditor-General, Federation of Malaya, he is still, as far as Singapore is concerned, Director of Audit, Malaya, and as such he will continue to audit the accounts of the Government of Singapore. Provision for the audit of the accounts of the Government of Singapore will be made in the new Constitution of Singapore.
