Inche Mohd. Ali Bin Alwi asked the Prime Minister when will kampong street lights be installed in all the "lorongs" from Lorong Marzuki to Jalan Sentosa and in the other unlighted parts in Alsagoff Estate.

Mr Chan Sun Wing: Mr Speaker, Sir, I have been asked by the Prime Minister to reply to this question.

Kampong street lighting schemes are being systematically introduced throughout the Island according to priorities based upon population density and availability of electricity.

In the area Paya Lebar to Jalan Alsagoff, street lighting was installed last year. In the area Jalan Alsagoff to Jalan Eunos, known as the Malay Farm, a proposal to light five streets at a cost of $15,000 has been submitted for consideration of the Planning Development Committee. The five streets are Jalan Betek, Jalan Tebu, Jalan Penggaga, Jalan Bayam, and Jalan Ubi. Proposals for the area Jalan Eunos to Jalan Sentosa will have to take their place alongside other proposals under the kampong lighting scheme. These particular areas have the added complication of being private property.

Inche Mohd. Ali: (In Malay): Mr Speaker, could the Parliamentary Secretary say whether street lighting could be installed in the area from Lorong Marzuki to Jalan Sentosa, which is considered to be private property?

Mr Chan Sun Wing: The answer is yes, but it will depend on the estimated cost.

Inche Mohd. Ali: (In Malay): Could the Parliamentary Secretary say whether street lighting facilities could be installed this year for the areas mentioned?

Mr Chan Sun Wing: Action will be taken to put up an estimated cost for lighting those streets, and we hope to do our best.
