Dato Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Jumat asked the Deputy Prime Minister to state the total number of taxis registered as at (i) 1st May, 1957, (ii) 24th December, 1957, and (iii) 5th May, 1961.
Dr Toh Chin Chye: (i) As at 1.5.57, the total number of taxis (2nd Class Hackney Carriages) registered was 1,552.
(ii) As at 24.12.57, the total number of taxis (2nd Class Hackney Carriages) registered was 2,328.
(iii) As at 5.5.61, the total number of taxis (2nd Class Hackney Carriages) registered was 3,202 (when five applications for replacements which have been received are dealt with, the total will be 3,207.
