The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr Low Por Tuck): Mr Deputy Speaker, I beg to move,
That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (1) of section 106 of the Income Tax Ordinance (Chapter 166), resolves that the Football Association of Malaya be added to the First Schedule to the said Ordinance with effect from the 1st day of January, 1960.
The Football Association of Malaya is the National Institution which controls football in the Federation of Malaya. One of the main objects of the Association is to promote the general interest of association football, and the Association has held several Merdeka Football Festivals and Asian Youth Tournaments which have served well to promote goodwill and friendship among people of South East Asian countries.
The Association plans to erect a six-storey building at a cost of $200,000. This will provide, among other things, training accommodation and accommodation for foreign and State teams. It plans to raise funds by promoting football matches. All profits made will be used for the general purposes of improving the standard of the game and for such projects as the new building under construction.
The Malayan Board of Income Tax and Comptroller-General of Income Tax have recommended that the Football Association of Malaya be included in the First Schedule to the Income Tax Ordinance with effect from the 1st day of January, 1960, and Government has accepted the recommendation.
Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.

That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (1) of section 106 of the Income Tax Ordinance (Chapter 166), resolves that the Football Association of Malaya be added to the First Schedule to the said Ordinance with effect from the 1st day of January, 1960.
