Dato Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Jumat asked the Minister for Home Affairs to state the number of persons detained during the period 3rd June, 1959, to 30th April, 1961, under (i) the Preservation of Public Security Ordinance, and (ii) the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Ordinance.
Mr Ong Pang Boon: (i) On 3rd June, 1959, there were 61 persons under detention under the Preservation of Public Security Ordinance. Of these, 35 have since been released.
During the period 3.6.1959 to 30.4.1961, an additional 27 persons were detained, of whom 18 were in connection with A.R.T.I.S. and 2 were connected with K.M.T. activities. Of these 27 persons 9 have been released.
As at 30.4.1961, there were altogether 44 persons under detention.
(ii) The number of persons detained under the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Ordinance in the period 3.6.1959 to 30.4.1961 was 513.
