Inche Ahmad Jabri Bin Mohammad Akib asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that the new Malay school at Pulau Sakijang Pelepah has been closed for a long period, the reasons therefor, and when will it be reopened.
Mr Yong Nyuk Lin: Mr Speaker, Sir, the reason why the new school at Pulau Sakijang Pelepah is closed is that the school is built on a level space cut into the hillside. On the hill slope overlooking the school are some very large granite boulders which are considered a source of danger to the school. It is not advisable, therefore, for the school to start until these boulders have been removed. In Gazette Notification 852 dated 21st April, 1961, a tender was accepted for the removal of the boulders. It is hoped that the school will open by July 1961.
