INCOME TAX ORDINANCE (First Schedule)

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr Low Por Tuck): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move,

That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (1) of section 106 of the Income Tax Ordinance (Chapter 166), resolves that the Federation of Family Planning Associations, Federation of Malaya, and affiliated State Family Planning Associations, be added to the First Schedule to the said Ordinance with effect from the 1st day of January, 1960.

State Family Planning Associations have been and are being set up in the various States in the Federation of Malaya. In addition to these State Associations, there is a Federation of Family Planning Associations, which has been set up to foster Family Planning work and to co-ordinate the work of State Associations.

To carry out its work, the Federation has applied to the Ministry of Health Federation of Malaya, for an annual grant. The Federation and its affiliated Associations also hope to raise sums from the public and may embark on ventures such as Gift Shops, the profits from which, together with the interests derived from the funds, will be devoted to Family Planning work.

The Malayan Board of Income Tax and Comptroller-General of Income Tax have recommended that the Federation of Family Planning Associations, Federation of Malaya, and affiliated State Family Planning Associations be included in the First Schedule to the Income Tax Ordinance with effect from the 1st day of January, 1960 and Government has accepted the recommendation.
