Mr Lee Choon Eng asked the Minister for Labour and Welfare if he is aware that no grounds for refusals are given by the Controller of Immigration to sponsors of applicants for entry into the Colony; and if he will direct the Controller of Immigration to furnish grounds in future.

Mr Braga: The Controller of Immigration is empowered to refuse any application for an entry permit if he is satisfied that the applicant is a prohibited immigrant. Where he has refused entry to any person he shall if so requested by such person inform him of the class of prohibited immigrant of which in the opinion of the Controller he is a member - and this has always been complied with.

Mr Lee Choon Eng: Sir, is the Minister aware that a sponsor has to wait sometimes three years for the result of his application and that after the result has been given no reason for the refusal is stated?

Mr Braga: I am not aware of that.
