Order for Second Reading read.

11.37 a.m.

The Attorney-General (Mr E. P. Shanks): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."

In Schedule A to the Criminal Procedure Code, there are summarised the various maximum punishments provided by the Penal Code. At its last sitting this Assembly passed a Bill which has now become the Penal Code (Amendment) Ordinance, 1958, which made various amendments to punishments that can be imposed for various offences, and it is necessary now to amend this Schedule to the Criminal Procedure Code to correct those portions which have become inaccurate. This Bill is purely complementary to the Penal Code (Amendment) Ordinance recently enacted.

Sir, I beg to move.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill accordingly read a Second time and committed to a Committee of the whole Assembly.

Assembly immediately resolved itself into a Committee on the Bill. [Mr Shanks.]

Bill considered in Committee; reported without amendment; read the Third time and passed.
