Legislative Assembly of Singapore Β· 11 June 1958 Β· 1st Legislative Assembly
Official Report, 11 June 1958, Vol 6, Issue 5 Β· Open in the reader (summaries, search, filters)
Order for Second Reading read.
11.34 a.m.
The Chief Secretary (Mr E. B. David): Sir, I beg to move, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."
Sir, this Bill is complementary to the Bill which the Assembly has just approved and is designed to enable the police to take immediate action when they receive information that members of a secret society are holding a meeting, without the necessity of having to swear out the information before a Justice of the Peace in order to obtain a search warrant. The reasons which I have put forward for moving the previous amending Bills hold good in respect of this one also, and I accordingly beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
Bill accordingly read a Second time and committed to a Committee of the whole Assembly.
Assembly immediately resolved itself into a Committee on the Bill. [Mr David.]
Bill considered in Committee; reported without amendment; read the Third time and passed.
