Order for Second Reading read.

12.12 p.m.

The Chief Secretary (Mr E. B. David): Sir, I beg to move that this Order be discharged and that the Royal Malayan Navy (Amendment) Bill be withdrawn.

Sir, since this Bill was given its First Reading, negotiations have been completed with the Federation of Malaya Government for the transfer of the Royal Malayan Navy to that Government. A public Press announcement has been made and it is hoped that the transfer can be effected by the beginning of next month. In those circumstances, Sir, there is no point in proceeding with this amending Bill which is concerned with the administration of the force.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That the Order for the Second Reading of this Bill be discharged and the Bill be withdrawn.

Mr Speaker: I think this is a convenient time to suspend. I shall take the Chair again at 2.30 p.m.

Sitting accordingly suspended at 12.14 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. Sitting resumed at 2.30 p.m.
