Mr R. Jumabhoy asked the Minister for Commerce and Industry what is the average monthly consumption of rice in Singapore for the period January 1955 to November 1956.

Mr J. M. Jumabhoy: Figures of the actual monthly consumption of rice in Singapore are not available. On the basis of net imports declared for human consumption during the period January 1955 to November 1956, the average monthly consumption is estimated at 10,500 tons. Actual consumption varies from month to month.
