Haji Sha'ari bin Tadin asked the Minister for National Development and Communications if the relevant authority will consider permitting a U-turn at the junction of Bedok South Avenue 1 and New Upper Changi Road to allow city-bound traffic from - Changi to make the necessary U-turn to go to Bedok North; or, if not, whether it will consider the feasibility of providing a filter road at the junction and U-turns along New Upper Changi Road opposite Apartment Block 29 and Bedok New Town Centre to enable motorists coming from the city and Changi to make the necessary U-turns.

Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, three U-turns have already been provided along New Upper Changi Road. Two of these are for Changi bound traffic and they are at the junctions of New Upper Changi Road with Bedok South Avenue 3 and Bedok Road. The other is for city-bound traffic at the junction of New Upper Changi Road with Bedok North Avenue 1. These U-turns are all placed at signalised junctions so that U-turns can be executed with minimum disruption to traffic flow along New Upper Changi Road.

To improve access to Bedok North by traffic from Changi, the PWD will install traffic signals at the junction of New Upper Changi Road/Bedok North Road in September 1978. Extra U-turns are therefore not warranted.
