Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for National Development and Communications whether he will consider the building of an overhead pedestrian bridge in front of the Katong Shopping Centre as pedestrians are presently taking risks when they are crossing the busy Mountbatten Road.
Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, pedestrians are not able and should not cross Mountbatten Road in front of Katong Shopping Centre as there is a railing on the centre divider of the road at this location. Our observations show that the majority of them cross at the designated pedestrian crossing at the signalised junction of Mountbatten Road and Haig Road. This is only 100 metres away from the main entrance and 40 metres away from the side entrance of Katong Shopping Centre. There is, therefore, no need for a pedestrian bridge across Mountbatten Road in front of Katong Shopping Centre.
