Haji Sha'ari bin Tadin asked the Minister for National Development and Communications if he will ascertain from the Singapore Bus Service (1978) Limited (a) when the proposed rationalization scheme will be implemented for Bedok New Town; and (b) whether the Company will consider the possibility of issuing one-fare tickets for commuters using the feeder services as well as the external services.
Mr Ong Teng Cheong (for the Minister for National Development and Communications): Sir, the proposed rationalisa- tion scheme for Bedok New Town will be implemented in stages. The first phase is tentatively scheduled for implementation sometime later this year. The exact date of implementation will be announced in due course.
The possibility of issuing one-fare tickets or transfer tickets for commuters using feeder services as well as external services is being looked into by SBS (1978) Limited. In the meantime, a $5 monthly season pass for feeder service has been introduced since 1st June 1978. This season pass entitles the holder to unlimited travel on any one designated feeder service. Therefore, regular commuters benefit from the use of these season passes.
