Mr Ng Yeow Chong asked the Minister for Law, the Environment and Science and Technology whether there is any plan to enlarge the Kallang Estate Market, in view of the expected increase in population when the redevelopment of the Old Kallang Airport and the Guillemard Road Estates is completed in 1980/81.
The Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment (Mr Chor Yeok Eng) (for the Minister for Law, the Environment and Science and Technology): ( In Mandarin): Sir, Mountbatten Constituency is presently served by the Kallang Estate Market and the HDB Kallang Hawker Emporium. These two centres have a total number of 488 stalls comprising 209 cooked food, 124 piece and sundry goods, and 155 market produce stalls. The two centres are adequate to cater for the increase in population following redevelopment of the Old Kallang Airport and the Guillemard Road Estates by 1980. There is, therefore, no plan to enlarge the Kallang Estate Market.
