Mr Cheong Yuen Chee asked the Minister for National Development and Communications whether he will ask the Public Works Department to consider providing a pedestrian crossing at Lorong 1, Toa Payoh, opposite Blocks 158 and 157.
Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, two traffic signals are being installed at Lorong 1, Toa Payoh - one at the existing zebra crossing and the other at its junction with Toa Payoh Rise. These traffic signals will enable pedestrians to cross the road at these two points. In addition, the signal lights will create traffic gaps and will thus assist pedestrians crossing Lorong 1 near Blocks 157 and 158.
Observations carried out at Lorong 1, Toa Payoh, near Blocks 157 and 158, show that pedestrians are able to cross the road without difficulty. At present, there is no need for a pedestrian crossing at this location. However, the PWD will keep the situation under review.
